Moon Water - Cloud Gate Dance

Moon Water, a dance piece with mirrors and water and set to Bach's 'Suites for Solo Cello', by choreographer Lin Hwai-min, who fuses meditation, tai-chi, martial arts and Chinese opera movement with modern dance and ballet.... all elements seemed conjured to deliver one enjoyable night, right!!? well, not exactly.

The dancers moved veeeeeeeeerry sssslllloooooooooooowwwwllly most of the time, call me suspicious, but the slowness lends an "air of importance" to what strikes me as a fairly basic premise and its vapid, repetitive elaboration. The accompanying music was veeeeeeeery boooooooring and depressive as well. Despite the impressive effect of water flooding the whole stage at the end (which later i knew wasn't permitted to recicle, i wounder why?!!), i was still recovering from the faintly traumatising previous sequences that most of the closing scene was lost on me.

Lin Hwai-min has conjured quite literally the most boring performance that could ever been conceived. It's saving grace is the touch of water movement and sound which elevates the all performance from lifeless to spry corpse. The staging is perfectly acceptable, the performances passable & boring, the sets have a few strong moments, but yet nothing can save this from being quite the most painful evening at the theatre.

Being trapped in a boring performance can make minutes seem like hours as they tick by, it just wasn't captivating to me.

The FUTURE generation

The Present generation

Today, a huge duststorm engulfed brisbane and everything looks yellow, this is what it looked like early afternoon. AMAZING!!! One more reason to love Australian weather - everything is so dramatic - when it rains it pours, when its hot and humid its a sauna and now a yellow-ish sky!

Logbook1 - Boat Cleaning, Maintenance

Nick and i, decided that with the good weather coming, would be nice to spend more time at the sea, so weekends will be spent at the boat, navigating around the bay islands for new adventures.

In the meantime, in order to bring an optimal performance on the water, boat maintenance started last saturday, the 12th september, with Switchboard & entire electrical system replacement.

Main dans la Main (solitude & liberte)

Hand in Hand

(click to see it full size)

I've had this idea in my head for a while... and finally got to dump it out on the blog. It's about how independence and loneliness seem to come hand in hand... well, at least that's how it feels to me. There is SO much stuff that happens that you never articulate. Thoughts that you don't express. They only exist in your memory.

Q & A

If you could realize 3 wishes (other than peace in the world, end of starvation, family health) what would they be ?

Hmm this is a tough question, hard to choose … i would like to be always happy and inspired, i would like to have a magic wand to make appear anything i want immediately, and a flying hover, just like in back to the future !

Favourite food ? I’m crazy for salads, and, ice cream.

Favorite sweet ? Honey & chocolate !

Favorite film ? I love every Sofia Coppola movies.

Favorite horror film ? Valerie and her week of wonders :)

Finish this sentence: ” Oh… my.. gosh… Brad Pitt is standing over there! I’m going to _________ ”

Ask him if i can babysitt his kids ? No seriously, i don’t think i would do anything, but in the case it was Johnny Deep instead, it would be much different believe me :)

Coffee or tea ? Tea please !

Things you love ? Springtime, taking pictures, having picnic in the middle of nowhere, being isnpired, people telling me how beautiful my shoes are.

Things you hate ? Infidelity, egocentric & egoist people.

Favorite drink ? Banana, pineaple and strawberry juice, white fruity wine, champagne, water.

What type of camera do you use? Do you ever edit them on the computer?

I’m using a canon 350 D, with a Canon EF - Objectif 50 mm f/1.4 & also a 18-55mm lens. I also use a compact Lumix with a Leica lens. I usually correct color & contrast with photoshop.

Who’s taking your pictures ?

I mostly take the pictures myself, using a tripod & a remote or the camera self timer.

The fairy tale-ish, soft focus autochromes

(click on a picture to see it full size)

My obsession with old autochromes inspired me get out of the house into the open air.

I just want to dream up a story about the girl in them with her magical silent film look and her lovely, faded surroundings, but in a way i'm scared that it won't live up to the idea i have of it in my head....

So, i'm going to try to be satisfied with getting a couple of photos out on the blog.

This photos are about the fairy tale-ish, soft focus autochromes as you can see, i really do want to get better at it....!

old autochromes

The number of old autochromes floating around on the internet seems about endless; just when i think I've seen most of them i stumble across some wonderful little collection that i had no idea existed, such as the color photography work of the celebrity/San Francisco photographer Arnold Genthe. I think i'd only seen his black and white pictures of Greta Garbo, which are great in their blurry silent film kind of way, but these color photographs are so much better!

At least to me, since i'm extra into romantic things with a dark, kind of creepy edge . . . These portraits have the same sort of cinematic feel but i think these might be a bit more eerie, because every story i try to imagine up for these scenes ends up dark, and don't the girls in these portraits look a little like ghosts?
