Peter Murphy - Mr. Moonlight Tour, Brisbane 2013
This article is dedicated to my 16 years old self and to all my teenage friends at the time back in Portugal.
Last night at the Hi-Fi Brisbane for The Mr. Moonlight Tour the iconic frontman Peter Murphy is celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus. This marks the first time ever that the frontman will play full Bauhaus sets on his own since the post-rock band's 1978 inception.
The band played an extended set that covered both the better-known songs such as Stigmata Martyr, God in an Alcove and Bela Lugosi’s Dead, as well as rare tunes such as Burning from the Inside and All we ever Wanted was Everything, they allowed themselves to experiment with the songs and make references that longtime fans could appreciate.
The real gem of the evening was a phenomenally extended She’s in Parties which the band began as its normal version, only to morph it into the dub version. Likewise, Murphy himself handled the trippy effects on Bela Lugosi’s Dead and pushed the song to its limits so that it became both a chilling groove.
By the time the band finishes their 1st encore they’re soaked to the bone with sweat, and I’m completely impressed with their level of musicianship and their stamina. A Strange Kind of Love, played emotively by the band bathed in blue light, will always be a picture that I will refer to in my head.
I was impressed with the instrumentation of his band, Murphy’s absolute authenticity in delivering Bauhaus songs and a really enthusiastic crowd. Thank you Mr. Murphy.
