Unnerved: The New Zealand Project
There are big things happening at GoMA at the moment. Ron Mueck’s oversized, hyperrealistic sculptures of ordinary people, as has Unnerved: The New Zealand Project, which is heralded by two enormous inflatable rabbits.
There’s a lot to be unnerved by in this multimedia exhibition from the Land of the Long White Cloud, and those who love film as well as other forms of art have the extra treat of an extensive series of feature and short films that have emerged from New Zealand over the past few decades.
Major sculptures by Michael Parekowhai, installations by Lisa Reihana and Michael Stevenson, and photographic series by Yvonne Todd, Anne Noble and Greg Semu will feature alongside video art by Sriwhana Spong and Nathan Pohio.
Ron Mueck - Gallery of Modern Art
Last weekend I was lucky enough to see some sculptures by the Australian born hyperrealist sculptor Ron Mueck. His massive, hyperreal figures are obsessively detailed, down to every pore and wrinkle. A new exhibition of Mueck's work opened in Queensland's Museum of Modern Art from the 8th May to 1st August.
Wild Man, as viewer i experience a level of unease that is borne of a voyeuristic awkwardness, as though i have invaded some kind of personal space. However, i also identify with the human condition this moment express.
Dead dad, is a hyper-realistic sculpture of Mueck’s dead father, naked. This extraordinary work has for me a huge emotional power.
Two women
A Girl, his five-metre baby.

In bed

Rainforest Discovery Bushwalk
This is an ideal walk for this time of year.
With lunch at a delightful stream meandering through the peaceful surroundings.
Rain forest streams tend to be relatively gently flowing streams of clean, clear water.
Walking up and down stream most certainly has filled us with a great sense of adventure !!!
