Jacaranda Lane

I fell in love with these trees on my very first spring in Brisbane.

During the months of October and November, the streets of Brisbane erupt in a vivid lilac fanfare as the Jacaranda trees go into full bloom!

It’s delicate trumpet shaped blossoms last for around two months at the height of the Australian Spring before carpeting the ground with a mass of colour – it is said that if one of those blossoms should fall on your head while you’re passing underneath, you will be rewarded by good fortune.

It's Latin name is Jacaranda mimosifolia, which is the most widely seen and admired tree of the Jacaranda family. It prefers a warm coastal climate and is prevalent as a centerpiece to gardens in Australia from Cairns to Melbourne, although it is not actually native to Australia but rather Brazil.
